Monthly review of the economic situation in voivodships 

The Central Statistical Office (GUS) presented data on the economic situation of the provinces in the first quarter of 2022.

The lowest unemployment rate (3.1%) was recorded in the wielkopolskie voivodship. Mazowieckie voivodship boasts the highest level of wages and salaries in industry (PLN 6,932) and in construction (PLN 7,996). In the first three months of 2022, industrial production grew fastest in the mazowieckie voivodeship (an increase of 30.4%). In turn, the świętokrzyskie province recorded the highest increase in sales in construction (by 98.1%).

Unemployment
In March, the number of registered unemployed was 902.1K people and was by 19.7K people lower than at the end of February and by 176.3K people lower than last year.
The unemployment rate (5.4% at the end of March), was lower than in February by 0.1 percentage point. At the same time, it turned out to be by 1.0 percentage point lower than a year ago, which is a result weaker than in February when the unemployment rate was 1.1 percentage point lower than a year ago.
March usually brings an improvement in unemployment statistics, which results from the increased demand for seasonal workers and the hiring of new employees to meet this year's level of orders.
The highest registered unemployment was recorded in March in the warmińsko-mazurskie voivodship (8.6%) and the lowest in wielkopolskie (3.1%).

Wages in industry and construction
In the period from January to March 2022, the average salary for the entire country was PLN 6,273 in industry and PLN 6,118 in construction. Compared to last year's results, wages in industry increased by 10.1% and in construction by 13.9%. The highest average wage in industry in January-March this year was recorded in the mazowieckie voivodship - PLN 6,932. The lowest wages were received by employees in the warmińsko-mazurskie voivodship (PLN 5,387). In construction, the highest level of average wages and salaries was observed in mazowieckie voivodship (PLN 7,996 on average). The lubelskie voivodeship was the region with the lowest wages (PLN 4,646).

Industry - production and efficiency
In the period of January-March 2022, the sold industrial production increased by 16.7% y/y. Growth was recorded in all regions - the highest in mazowieckie (by 30.4%). Production increased by more than 20% also in the podkarpackie (by 24.1%) and zachodniopomorskie (by 23.7%) voivodships. The voivodships: wielkopolskie and dolnośląskie turned out to be the regions with the lowest growth rate of industrial production - by 5.4% and 5.5%, respectively. Productivity in industry in the first three months of this year on average, increased by 15.2% in the scale of the entire country. In all voivodships, the efficiency increased, and the highest was achieved in mazowieckie (by 29.0%). The lowest productivity increased in dolnośląskie voivodeship (by 4.0%).

Construction - production and efficiency
The sold production in construction in the first three months of 2022 increased nationwide by 37.9% y / y. All voivodships recorded positive sales results in construction on an annual basis. The highest - over 50 % - increases were achieved in the following voivodeships: świętokrzyskie (by 98.1%), łódzkie (by 66.8%), pomorskie (by 66.5%) and wielkopolskie (by 57.6%). Productivity in construction increased in all voivodships - by 36.5% y / y on average. The highest increases were recorded in the świętokrzyskie and łódzkie voivodships (97.3% and 70.0% respectively).

Housing market
In the period of January-March 2022, 54 742 apartments were commissioned - 3.2% more than in the corresponding period of 2021. The highest y/y increase was recorded in the łódzkie voivodship (by 29.0%) and the highest decrease in the dolnośląskie voivodship - by 26.0%.
